Canyon de Chelly
Thursday May 27, 2004
I'm just back from a trip to Arizona and New Mexico, two states that never fail to astound me with their natural beauty. One of the most beautiful sights on my recent trip was Canyon de Chelly in northeast Arizona, in the place Navajo people call Tsaile (SAY-ih), meaning home.
It took Nature 30 million years to sculpt the landscape here, compressing sand dunes into a dark red rock layer and cutting canyon walls up to 1,000 high.
