Calistoga, California

Thursday November 3, 2005
Few Napa visitors drive far enough past the northernmost "Welcome to Napa" sign to find Calistoga, but this charming town with its early 1900s main street is a good choice for a relaxing weekend getaway, .

Calistoga sits on the site of several hot springs, and you'll find plenty of spas here that take advantage of them, offering thermal baths and (my favorite) mud baths. It's small enough that you can walk all over town, exploring the shops, galleries and neighborhoods and, of course, you'll find wineries nearby, along with California's "Old Faithful" geyser.
