American Graffiti Turns 35

Monday April 21, 2008
For the baby boomer generation, American Graffiti may be the classic coming-of-age film, as its tag line: "Where were you in '62?" attests. It's a California product all the way, filmed in San Rafael, Mill Valley and San Francisco, but the most memorable scenes took place in Petaluma, including the drag race scene between the '32 Ford and '55 Chevy. The film was released in 1973, and the town of Petaluma is ready to celebrate its 35th birthday.

Petaluma's Salute to American Graffiti 2008 takes place May 15-17, but the most fun time go will be the 15th, when they plan to re-enact the the cop car destruction scene.
