Yosemite's Tioga Pass opens at noon today, one of the earliest openings ever and probably the shortest winter road closure in the history of the park, according to the Yosemite Conservancy. California east of the Sierras is our featured destination for the month - look for the post about that in a couple of days. The pass opening also means you can take our scenic back road trip from San Francisco to Las Vegas.
On the average, Tioga Pass opens around May 30. It's closed as early as September 4, as late as January 1 and around the first of November on average.
