Death Valley is one of the driest, hottest places on earth. The second-highest recorded temperature was 134 F (57C), in July, 1913.
Night temperatures will be about 20-30 degrees cooler than in the daytime. Lower elevations are hotter than higher ones, dropping by three to five degrees for every thousand feet of elevation.
Beware of flash floods any time it rains. The desert becomes so dry that water does not soak in, forcing all the rainfall to accumulate into runoff. During heavy rains, flooding can start almost immediately.
