The Stingaree

Near this location was the heart of San Diego's "Barbary Coast," called the Stingaree District, part of the young city of San Diego that included saloons, gambling halls, opium dens and brothels. As many as 71 saloons and 120 bawdy houses sprang up during the 1880s. Today, this nightclub uses the infamous district's name.
This particular building was formerly the Produce Market, built in 1918 and home to the first company to import bananas into San Diego from Hawaii.
