Black's Beach, America's most popular, is still an active nudist site in the state-owned portion. If visit, do your part to keep it that way by respecting the boundary signs and covering up if you're going beyond them.
Cautions: Nudity bans are enforced on the south end in the city-owned portion of Black's Beach ($135 fine)

Shuffle your feet in the water to avoid stingray injury

Location: La Jolla, San Diego County
Description:
  • Black's Beach is topped by 300-foot high sandstone cliffs
  • Two miles long and as wide as 60 feet
  • There have been some reports of sex on the sand
  • Hang gliders and remote control airplanes nearby
  • Paul says Black's is "Very clean and at low tide, it is very wide. High tide can consume nearly all of it if it is an especially high, high tide. Sand is fine and is a mixture of black and white sand."
Who's at Blacks Beach: Attendance at Black's Beach can top 10,000

From Paul: "The crowd is fairly mixed. A majority of men, but that is due to the large gay male population at the northern end. The southern end has a more evenly mixed gender ratio."

Blacks Beach Facilities: None
Blacks Beach Activities: From Paul: "Surfing, snorkeling, boogie boarding, jogging, volley ball (there are often groups that bring their own nets and start games and others are welcome to join in), tide pooling near Mussel Rock, and swimming"
Blacks Beach Rating: See what others think.

Laws regarding nudity at the naturist beach vary by location and fines are stiff in some places. I have made every effort to provide accurate information, but the responsibility for knowing the law at Blacks Beach is yours.

Nude or naturist beach neophytes, please be respectful of others and read the Nude Beach and Topless Beach Etiquette guidelines before you go to a nude beach and check the nudity laws too.
