Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

The United States' only mountain zoo is home to more than 650 animals and 30 endangered species, including unique critters such as the Sichuan takin, okapi, wooly mountain tapir and boreal toad. The zoo also runs the world's most prolific giraffe-breeding program, with over 178 births since 1954.

In the African Rift Valley area, you'll find Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's most unusual activity: hand-feeding the giraffes. Purchase special "giraffe crackers" and give the long-necked creatures a treat.

Besides the animal exhibits, the zoo offers face painting, a carousel and tot train, summers only. In summer, guided tram tours are also available.

Zoo admission includes a visit to the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun, a short drive further up the mountain.
