Larimer Square
Centered on Denver's first city street, Larimer Square (named for Denver's founder, General William Larimer) once housed Denver's first bank, bookstore, photographer and dry goods store. It was also the site of the city's first post office and the first theater.Rescued from the wrecking ball in the 1960s, Larimer Square is now a shopping, dining and entertainment center, lively day and night. It includes 16 renovated late-nineteenth-century commercial buildings that now house shops, nightclubs and cafes, connected by courtyards and open spaces.
Larimer Square also hosts a number of events throughout the year, such as Oktoberfest and Winterfest (which includes an ice-sculpting competition).
