Disney California Adventure Tips

By Betsy Malloy, About.com

These tips will help you have a great time at Disney California Adventure theme park. They're specifically for visiting Disney California Adventure. Print them and take them along. They're designed to help you while you're there. While you're planning your trip, you may also want to look over a checklist of things to do before you leave home.

Don't miss more useful tips for the Disneyland Resort, ideas that apply to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

  • Get Oriented: Study a Disney California Adventure park map before you arrive to familiarize yourself with the layout and plot your itinerary.

  • Times and Closures: Get current information on show times and ride closures at the Information Board.

  • Pictures: You can always take your own, but if you want to be sure you get some really good pictures to take home no matter what, use the Disney Photo Pass. Just pick up a card from any Disney photographer, load photos on it all day long and then order prints or other photo products as souvenirs. There's no charge to have your picture taken, so why not?

  • Alcohol: Alcoholic drinks are available in some parts of Disney's California Adventure, but not in Disneyland. Where the alcoholic beverages are part of the experience, as they are in the Napa Valley region, they are served.

  • Parades: Arrive early to get a spot to see the parades. Crowds won't be as bad as in Disneyland, but you should get there about a half hour early for the Electric Parade. If you stand just in front of the California Zephyr, you'll be close to the exit when it's over.

  • Meeting Place: The big sun sculpture just inside the entrance is a good meeting place. Walk there together as soon as you arrive so everyone knows exactly where it is.

  • Cool Spots: Stop at any of the indoor attractions to cool off. The Animation Studio has a sitting area in the middle, and you can watch clips from Disney cartoons while you rest. In front of Soarin' Over California, the big simulated jet engine dispenses a cooling water mist on hot days.

  • Characters: The characters hang out in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot. More tips for meeting the Disney characters.

  • Packages: If you buy something in the California Adventure, you don't have to carry it around all day. Just take it to the Engine Ears toy store near the entrance and let them hold it for you.
