Dining
Fine restaurants abound in Napa, and the small town of Yountville (population 3,500) has more top-rated restaurants than many small cities. In fact, the restaurants here are so good that six of the San Francisco Chronicle's top 100 restaurants are actually in the Napa Valley, no small feat considering that San Francisco is said to have the best restaurants in the world. They are:
- Bistro Don Giovanni - According to the San Francisco Chronicle, "The food just keeps getting better and better" at this Napa restaurant. Napa
- Foothill Cafe (2766 Old Sonoma Rd) - A favorite of Napa locals, serving rustic American food. Napa
- Bistro Jeanty - The interior is charming and the French cuisine leaves diners breathless with appreciation. Yountville
- Bouchon - Casual French classics such as quiche and cassoulet, in a sophisticated setting. Yountville
- French Laundry - Some say it's the best restaurant in the United States. Yountville
- Mustard's - Simple, grilled food with a California twist. Yountville
The Culinary Institute's Wine Spectator Greystone Restaurant is an excellent lunch stop. While it daunts many visitors, with its imposing building and name bringing up images of diners in their fanciest attire, nothing could be farther from reality. The comfortable dining room is often full of people in very casual attire. With an open kitchen, stone walls and warm copper trimmings, and a few kitchen clanging noises in the background, the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting.
The Culinary Institute also offers one-hour cooking demonstrations to the general public for a fee. For reservations or more information call (707) 967-2320.
