La Jolla Pictures
Tide Pool

This tide pool is nested in the rocks just outside the Children's Pool breakwater. The Giant Green Anemone you see here gets its color from algae that lives in its tissues in a cooperative relationship. The algae provides the anemone with nourishment and the anemone gives the algae a protected place to live. The anemone also eats smaller creatures that it catches with its tentacles.
