Klondike National Historic Park
When the 1897 Yukon gold strike set off a rush to the Klondike Gold Fields, Seattle provided a gateway north, and over the next two years, tens of thousands of hopeful miners rushed here, where they bought supplies and steamship tickets to Alaska, and on to the Klondike. Some stayed behind, and help to build Seattle. The Klondike National Historic Park's exhibits and audiovisual programs tell the story of the Gold Rush. Their programs include:
- A 27-minute overview of Klondike Gold Rush events.
- A 15-minute slide program focusing on the role Seattle and Pioneer Square played as chief outfitting and transportation center during the Klondike Gold Rush.
- A 15-minute slide program that recounts what it was like for miners scaling the Chilkoot Pass.
- Gold-panning demonstrations (summer only).
- Pioneer Square Historical District walking tour (summer only).
