Grand Teton National Park encompasses the Teton Range, the Rocky Mountains' youngest range. The Grand Teton towers more than a mile above the valley and Jackson Hole. Twelve of the Teton peaks are more than 12,000 feet high, and they are filled with glaciers.

The park's 310,000 acres protect the Teton Range, Jackson Hole valley, a 50-mile portion of the Snake River, seven morainal lakes, over 100 backcountry and alpine lakes, and a wide range of wildlife and plant species.
