In the 1100s, a large, rich and influential pueblo flourished in the area that is now Wupatki National Monument. About 100 people lived here, and several thousand more lived nearby. The community prospered for a time, and then the people moved on. Today, Wupatki National Monument preserves the remnants of their pueblos and houses.
