Step 1: Get to Know the Grand Canyon

By Betsy Malloy, About.com

Before you plan your trip, spend some time getting familiar with the Grand Canyon. Knowing a little about it before you go will make your trip more enjoyable.

Get to Know the Grand Canyon

Did you know the Grand Canyon has not two, but THREE rims?
  • South Rim: This is what most people think of when you say "Grand Canyon." It can be crowded, especially in mid-summer.
  • North Rim: My personal favorite for terrific views and the smallest crowds, but closed in winter.
  • West Rim: Home of the Havasupai and Hualapai Indian Reservations. This is where the new the Grand Canyon Skywalk is located.

Grand Canyon Weather and Climate
Many Grand Canyon visitors contribute to the local economy when they discover they've brought the wrong clothing on their trip. Review the average temperature and rainfall by month, and get a look at the weather forecast.
