Powell Museum Review
This small museum focuses on its namesake John Wesley Powell and his Colorado River voyages of 1869 and 1871. Exhibits related to Powell include a reproduction of one of his river boats. The museum also owns a diorama of Powell's expedition and another of Coronado's exploration, which were on display for many years at the Grand Canyon. They are so nicely renovated that it's reported that the folks at the Grand Canyon are now wondering why they gave them away.
Other exhibits here include a collection of Native American and pioneer artifacts, displays about the geology of the Colorado River canyons and the history and development Lake Powell and the town of Page. Rotating art exhibits round out the things you can see.
The museum also has on display the fossilized skeleton of a plesiosaur, a prehistoric marine reptile. Kids like to see this water-dwelling version of a dinosaur and they also the hands-on corn-grinding exhibit.
