San Luis Obispo is a pleasant university town with a historic Spanish mission (established in 1872) in the middle of downtown and a pleasant stream running through it. On Thursday evenings, a lively farmer's market fills the streets. Any day you visit, kids (and adults) enjoy seeing bubblegum alley, which is near the intersection of Broad Street and Higuera, just off Broad. Bring your own gum and get chewing to add to the kitschy artwork.
