The right answer to the question depends on a lot of variables, but I thought you ought to have all the facts available. To reach the totals shown, I looked up the rates at Disneyland Hotel and several others in the Disneyland area for a two-day stay, Wednesday-Thursday, in July, 2008 and added all the extra fees and costs, including 15% tax, resort fees, parking fees and cost for Disneyland parking if required.
Disneyland Hotel: $705
Quoted rate (before tax): $600, plus $10 per day resort fee which includes parking. An intangible benefit is that guests can get into Disneyland earlier than other visitors on specific days. The hotel has a themed swimming pool and Disney-themed decor.Lemon Tree and Pepper Tree: $226 and $249
Quoted rates (before tax): $178 and $198, plus $11 per day Disneyland parking. These personal favorites are less than a ten-minute drive from the park. They do not charge for parking, but they don't have a shuttle, so you will have to pay for parking at Disneyland. The Pepper Tree has small kitchens which can help with meal costs.Howard Johnson Plaza: $297
Quoted rate (before tax): $218. It's within two blocks of the gate and offers free parking.Hyatt Regency Orange County: $416
Quoted rate (before tax): $386, plus $15 per day self-parking. It's a little further away down Harbor Boulevard, but offers much nicer amenities. Their Disneyland shuttle is free.Is the Disneyland Hotel Worth It?
Are the intangible benefits of the the Disneyland Hotel worth $349 to $469 more (for two days) than other properties in the area? In my opinion, no. I get enough of Mickey and Disney at the parks, and most of the time I'm in my room, I'm asleep and can't see the decor. I'd rather go home with the extra money in my pocket. What do you think?
