Guide Review - Villa Delle Stelle
Noted Hollywood designer Brogan Lane first converted a 1925 house into three suites, each with their own style and decor: English, Art Deco, Parisian. It was such a hit that more suites have been added in neighboring houses.
Operated like a vacation rental, Villa Delle Stelle provides a literal home away from home. It's located on a side street near the Sunset-Gower Studios, about a mile from Hollywood and Highland.
We first stayed in the Art Deco Suite, which has a bedroom, two baths, living area, kitchen and office/sitting room with a pullout bed that could accommodate two more people. The decor is extraordinary, and we spent much of our stay exclaiming "this place is gorgeous" or calling each other: "Look at this." We felt like we'd borrowed a friend's apartment, and our only complaint was that we had to leave after only one night.
Five years later, we split our time between a one-bedrooms cottage and the Hollywood Glamour Suite bungalow. The experience didn't change our opinion of the place one bit.
Judging from tripadvisor reviews and notes in our room's guest book, others agree that Villa Delle Stelle is nearly perfect.
For a group of four who would need two rooms in a regular hotel but don't mind sharing a suite, it becomes an excellent value for money. Rates are lower for stays longer than one night, and most suites sleep four.
Fans of late actor Dudley Moore should request the English Suite, which Lane (Moore's former wife) has furnished with his original "disklavier" piano, dining table, bed, and his childhood memorabilia. La Petite Suite on La Baig Avenue is the original home of the late singer and actress Eartha Kitt.
As is common in the travel industry, the writer was provided with a complimentary accommodation in 2006 for the purpose of review, but we paid for our return visit in 2011 ourselves.
