Guide Review - Villa Delle Stelle

Villa Delle Stelle means "house of the stars" in Italian, and if you stay in this elegant place, you'll feel like you're the star and this is your home.

Noted Hollywood designer Brogan Lane converted a 1925 house into three suites, each with their own style and decor: English, Art Deco, Parisian. Operated like a vacation rental, Villa Delle Stelle provides a literal home away from home. It's located on a side street near the Sunset-Gower Studios, about a mile from Hollywood and Highland.

We stayed in the Art Deco Suite, which has a bedroom, two baths, living area, kitchen and office/sitting room with a pullout bed that could accommodate two more people. The decor is extraordinary, and we spent much of our stay exclaiming "this place is gorgeous" or calling each other: "Look at this." We felt like we'd borrowed a friend's apartment, and our only complaint was that we had to leave after only one night.

Judging from tripadvisor reviews and notes in our room's guest book, others agree that Villa Delle Stelle is nearly perfect.

At $285 per night for the Art Deco Suite (as of December, 2006), Villa Delle Stelle is well worth the price. For a group of four who would need two rooms in a regular hotel but don't mind sharing a suite, it becomes an excellent value for money. Rates are lower for stays longer than one night, and all except the English Suite sleep four.

Fans of late actor Dudley Moore should request the English Suite, which Lane (Moore's former wife) has furnished with his original "disklavier" piano, dining table, bed, and his childhood memorabilia.
