Stearns Wharf, Santa Barbara
- Santa Barbara: It's like the Riviera in California, with a palm-tree-lined waterfront and a lively downtown street scene.
- San Diego: San Diego is big enough to qualify as a vacation destination by itself, but if you've only got a little while to check it out, we've narrowed down the selection for you.
- Catalina Island: It's a ferry ride away from the mainland and perhaps best for a two-day jaunt, but a determined visitor could check it out in a day.
- La Jolla: One of the prettiest little towns along the California coast.
- Newport Beach: Focus on the old-fashioned fun of the Balboa Peninsula and the man-made islands for a fun day out.
- Palm Springs: Palm Springs has lots of great 1950s architecture, a ton of golf courses, more than a dozen hot spring spas and a nice resort atmosphere.
- Solvang: This little Danish town has been "tarted up" for tourists as my English friends might say, but it's still a pleasant place to visit.
- Ventura: With a beautiful oceanfront and a nice downtown, it's almost as nice as Santa Barbara but more affordable.
