The word "island," combined with "Newport Beach" always seems to come out well. There's Balboa Island and Lido Island in the Newport Harbor, Fashion Island shopping center and the Island Hotel, located in the middle of them all. This upscale hotel is a quiet, luxurious hotel in the old-school style, with capable and helpful (if somewhat stiff and formal) front desk staff. Its location close to Pacific Coast Highway makes it a great base for exploring the area.
The Island Hotel goes to great lengths to provide you with a good night's sleep, and they succeed, with their "Perfect Sleep" system which includes exclusively-designed mattresses, Egyptian cotton bed linens made in Italy, and goose-down duvets and pillows.
The on-premises Island Spa offers a wide range of treatments in a lovely, quiet setting. Special touches includes aromatic teas and a plate of "fruit sushi" served after your treatment. The spa has trained their staff in the massage techniques of the islands, incorporating a Balinese massage into their highly-recommended Island Nourisher treatment which includes a fragrant coffee-and-coconut body scrub.
If the spa gets you too relaxed to go out for dinner, don't worry. The Pavilion Restaurant offers a fine dining experience, and the chef's special truffled macaroni and cheese is not to be missed.
