This grand, ivy-covered building was built by the Chateau's first owner, Alfred L. Tubbs in 1882. In 1896, he named his winery Chateau Montelena (a contracted form of Mount Saint Helena). It's one of Napa Valley's oldest wineries and was also a winner of the 1976 "Judgment at Paris" portrayed in the film Bottle Shock, an event that for the first time put California wines in the same league as French ones.
