Where to Stay in Mendocino County

By Betsy Malloy, About.com

The best place to stay in Mendocino depends on your budget and what you're looking for. These tips may help you pick the spot that's best for you.
  • Town of Mendocino: A charming town that brings to mind a New England village, Mendocino offers restaurants and shops, as well as places to stay. The best rated and luxury Mendocino of course offer the best amenities, comfiest beds, best views and service, but you can also find some very nice moderately-priced lodging

  • Fort Bragg: One of the larger coastal towns and convenient to the Skunk Train, Fort Bragg offers some of the coast's more affordable accommodations.

  • Mendocino Coast: The Mendocino Coast towns: Elk, Point Arena, Albion or Little River are smaller and quieter, and have some spectacular properties with extraordinary views. However, some of these places are so isolated that cell phone service is not available. If staying connected is important to you, check with your innkeeper before making a reservation.

  • Inland Mendocino County: Especially if you're traveling on U. S. 101, Willits and Ukiah are convenient places to stay. They also provide quite affordable lodging and are within easy driving distance of the coast.
No matter where you plan to stay, our money-saving strategies may help you pay less than the price ranges we've shown. You can also save a lot by visiting during the winter, when rates plummet.
