Mission San Miguel Arcangel was the sixteenth one built in California, founded July 25, 1797 by Father Fermin Lasuen. The name San Miguel comes from Saint Michael, Captain of the Armies of God.

Mission San Miguel is located just off US Highway 101 about 215 miles north of Los Angeles. Exit the highway at 10th Street and follow the signs. The town is small and Mission San Miguel is easy to find.
