Guide Review - Inn at Occidental

One of the cutest and most comfortable inns we've experienced in a long time, the Inn at Occidental sits prettily on the hillside just about the charming little west Sonoma County town it's named for.

Innkeepers Tina and Jerry Wolsborn provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with lots of comfortable touches. Breakfasts, served in a lovely downstairs room with an inviting outdoor patio are delicious. Unlike other places, where the morning meal is so large that you feel stuffed all day, breakfast focuses on smaller, well-prepared portions.

Each room at the Inn at Occidental has its own theme, based on collectibles gathered by the inn's former owner. We stayed in the Marbles suite, decorated around an antique marble collection displayed on the wall. Other fun themes include Cirque du Sonoma, an old-fashioned circus (antique ringmaster's costume and a yellow-and-white bed canopy) and the Kitchen Cupboard, filled with a fun collection of antique kitchen gadgets. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable.

The Inn is on a hillside. Some rooms are in the original building and some in a second, newer structure. If you have difficulty with stairs, call and ask for a room on the main floor. The Inn has a resident dog, a well-behaved little Shi Tzu named Kalua. At times, she has the run of the common areas. We think she's darling, especially when decked out in her lime green-and-pink polkadot shirt.

The innkeepers can help make your stay perfect, making restaurant reservations and spa appointments on request.
