The result is a hotel as good as you'll find anywhere in California, with a soft country look and plenty of modern amenities. The historic hotel, cottages and caretaker's house (where we stayed) surround a nice outdoor patio. Old and new blend seamlessly, with claw-footed bathtubs in the hotel rooms complemented by the most modern surround shower.
There were few flaws in our Tallman experience, and those were minor. Breakfast coffee was lukewarm at best and a little noise from the pool leaked into our room. Perhaps the best way to sum up our opinion is just to say that we started planning a return visit even before we left.
The Blue Wing Cafe next door serves traditional fare, exceptionally well-prepared and their service is as outstanding as the food. In fact, when we asked if they could call us in our room when a table was available, the server went ever further, coming to our door to tellus.
The Tallman Hotel is part of Unique Inns, which also includes the Inn at Occidental, Carter House, Vagabond Inn, Groveland Hotel and other great places to stay on the West Coast.
