Guide Review - Spa Ojai

The 31,000 square foot spa village at the Inn at Ojai offers a full range of spa treatments, in a pretty, comfortable setting. It's open to hotel guests as well as visitors.

We enjoyed the Kuyam (Koo-Yahm), their most unique spa experience. Kuyam is a Chumash Indian word which means “a place to rest together.” Given in a room specially designed for it with lovely stained-glass windows filtering light to a soft blue, the treatment uses dry heat and inhalation therapy to create the environment for a relaxing, meditative experience. Limited to eight people of the same gender, it starts with application of clay blended with essential oils. Each guest is given three to apply to themselves, each one formulated to provide benefits to different parts of the body. A guided meditation with music follows, creating a deeply relaxing experience. The heat and clays combine to detoxify the body while the meditation helps unclutter the mind.

The experience ends with a cooling shower and a cup of hot peppermint tea. Overall it provides a high degree of relaxation for a very reasonable price, giving excellent value for money. We especially recommend it for anyone who feels overwhelmed by daily turmoil and noise, but it's great for everyone else, too.

After your treatment is over, Spa Ojai has a nice area for continued relaxation, with plenty of places to sit and relax as well as a sauna and hot tub to soak in. Allow plenty of time in your schedule so you can take advantage of it.
