The Bottom Line
Sunset Cove Villas are the closest many of us will ever come to knowing what it's like to live in a luxurious, oceanfront Laguna Beach home. Bring enough people and they're a good value for money, too.

This place would make an especially good spot for a family vacation or for a romantic retreat.

Guide Review - Sunset Cove Villas
Situated just a block off Coast Highway in Laguna Beach and right above a beach with private access, Sunset Cove Villas couldn't be much better - or more convenient - for a relaxing stay. It's so close you can walk to town, to dinner, to the Pageant of the Masters and the beach. That is, if you can drag yourself away from the million-dollar views.

To get a better look at the villas, visit the website. The pictures there are extremely accurate and coupled with the floor plans, they'll give you a good idea of what each villa is like. Pay attention the list of amenities when choosing your spot: two of the villas do not have a view (a good thing if you want to save some money and don't mind using the shared sun deck).

Rates range vary by location, view and number of people the villa can accommodate. Best values are off-season (after Labor Day1 to just before Memorial Day2), when two couples sharing a smaller unit would pay no more to stay here than they would in a low- to moderate-priced area motel. Minimum stay in summer is a week, but off-season, there's only a three-night minimum.

Sunset Cove isn't the first property to assume that everyone wants to sleep on squishy feathers - and they probably won't be the last to be wrong about it, either - at least in our opinion. Unfortunately, lack of comfortable pillows led to some restless nights, the only thing that marred an otherwise perfect week.

We stayed at Sunset Cove Villas in August, 2009. As is common in the travel industry, the writer was provided with complimentary accommodation for the purpose of reviewing Sunset Cove Villas. 1 Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September.

We sorely missed our trip to Laguna this year. It's become an annual migration from the mid-West for us during last 15 years. Since 2003 we've had a truly splendid stay at the Sunset Cove Villas. In our experience, nothing compares to this facility. Each year the Villas are as spotless and luxurious as the first time we were there. And talk about beach front location! Our villa was literally 20 stair steps down to the sand and only a few more steps than that from the heart of downtown Laguna shopping and restaurants. The lounging deck has a panoramic view that can't be beat, with every outdoor grilling amenity you can imagine. The concierge service is always genuinely friendly and helpful. Our first year, we had the good fortune to get a tour of the place from the on-site manager/concierge. Each unit is decorator perfect in a different beach-themed style. Stunning! We're already planning for next summer--hope we haven't lost our spot! If you go during the summer, don't miss the Pageant of the Masters.
