In Spanish, Bolsa Chica means "little pocket," and this little pocket is full of gems. Not only does Bolsa Chica State Beach have 1-1/2 miles of shoreline and a 350-acre marine estuary that's a major stopover for birds migrating along the Pacific Flyway, but Bolsa Chica State Beach is one of the best places to surf on the Orange County coast, especially for beginning surfers and surfing classes.

Highs and Lows at Bolsa Chica State Beach:

Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is across the street from the state beach. Docents lead bird-watching tours here every first Saturday of every month.

How to Get to Bolsa Chica State Beach:

Bolsa Chica State Beach is on Pacific Coast Highway between Golden West and Warner Avenue. To get there, exit I-405 at Beach Boulevard and turn right onto Pacific Coast Highway.

You'll find a paid parking lot on Warner Avenue.
