The Great American Melodrama has been a Pismo Beach tradition for more than thirty years. This small troupe performs musical comedies and a vaudeville review, staging several productions each season.

Watching Great American Melodrama

The Great American Melodrama is the kind of entertainment you don't find often these days. The jokes are cute and clean, the actors enthusiastic and the subject matter suitable for almost any age. It's a fun way to spend an evening, and one of the few family-oriented things to do in Pismo Beach after dark.

We recommend it for children more than seven years old, but you know your children best. They should be able to sit still enough to keep from disturbing their neighbors for at least two hours, (three if you saty for the vaudeville review).

You can choose from two types of seating at the Great American Melodrama: tables on the main floor and two tiers of seats around the sides of the room. Either one has good sightlines and everything is close enough to the stage, but the tables give you a little more room to hold your food and drinks.

The in-house pub serves snacks, hot dogs, barbecue beef sandwiches, "stuff your own" baked potatoes, soup, salads and desserts. It opens 30 minutes before the show and during both intermissions. Especially on weekdays, restaurants in Pismo close early, so either plan to eat dinner here or grab a bite before you go.
