San Diego Restaurants and Dining

New restaurants come and go in San Diego and today's darling may sport tomorrow's "closed" sign on its door. The restaurants we list here are those old standbys, the ones that people keep standing in line for year after year.

San Diego Restaurant Week
It's billed as a chance to "experience cuisine that delights your palate" at a discounted price and it happens twice a year. Find out if it's for you, how to best enjoy it and how to pick a good restaurant to try.

A. R. Valentien, La Jolla
Fresh regional cuisine served in an elegant, Craftsman-style dining room.

Bertrand at Mister A's
Often voted among the best restaurants in town (if money is no object). their menu focuses on Continental and American cuisine and their views are hard to beat.

Blue Boheme
It's a bit off the beaten tourist track in the Kensington neighborhood, but well worth the trip if you like French bistro and country food.

Corvette Diner
1950s diner decor and a lively wait staff make this place a favorite of kids of all ages. In the lively Hillcrest neighborhood.

George's at the Cove, La Jolla
Locals vote this La Jolla place among the city's best restaurants year after year. It has great views, too.

Hash House A Go Go
A local favorite for its breakfasts and family dining. They call their cuisine "twisted farm food."

Nine-Ten, La Jolla
Cuisine by Jason Knibb and Jack Fisher is farm-fresh regional cooking at its best.

Old Town Mexican Cafe
This Old Town favorite is so popular that you're likely to be faced with a wait - and they don't take reservations. The fact that people hang around anyway gives and idea of how good their food is. Specialties include carnitas, ribs and fajitas.

Point Loma Seafoods
A bit outside the tourist areas, but there's always a line out the door at this local, fresh seafood shop.

Region
USA Today says this restaurant from the founders of La Jolla's Nine-Ten is "the embodiment of San Diego's new culinary personality."

Sammy's Woodfired Pizza
A great, moderate-priced pizza and pasta restaurant that's good for dining with kids. They have several locations.

The Marine Room, La Jolla
Offering some of the city's best fine dining since 1941.

The Prado at Balboa Park
Gets top votes for outdoor dining and the inside dining area is pretty, too. Local newspaper readers voted it the most romantic restaurant in San Diego for 2007. Some say their bar serves the best mojitos and pisco sours in town.
