Highway 395 Skiing Guide

Mammoth Mountain is the most difficult California ski area to reach in winter. located on the eastern side of the Sierras and accessed by US 395. Because many mountain passes (including the most direct one from San Francisco to Mammoth) are closed in winter, the only way to drive to Mammoth is to tale US 395 from either Lake Tahoe or the Los Angeles area. Many skiers choose to fly into Mammoth Mountain instead.
