White Sands Missile Range Museum
Here at White Sands, you'll find an interesting collection of missiles and rockets dating from the 1950s through the 1990s. Inside the museum, exhibits include local history as well as examples of technology and experiments done at the White Sands center. Despite the fact that the first atomic bomb was detonated here, their exhibits about the Trinity Site are limited to a few artifacts in a small room. The Trinity Site is open to the public twice a year.When you get to the White Sands entrance, each adult visitor will need a government-issued ID, and if you want to drive inside, you'll need vehicle registration and proof of insurance. From the visitor center near the gate, it's easiest to walk to the museum, leaving your car outside.
Getting to White Sands Missile Range Museum
On US 70/US 82, travel 44 miles west of Alamagordo or 19 miles east of Las Cruces.Watch for the brown "Museum - Missile Park" sign and follow its directions. The Main gate of White Sands Missile Range is about 4 miles off the main highway.
