Zumanity Review
Cirque du Soleil describes Zumanity as "the other side of Cirque du Soleil." More theater than circus, produced in a European cabaret style, this show departs from Cirque du Soleil's family image to focus on human sexuality. Expect to see nudity, both implied and actual, but used tastefully to celebrate the beauty of the human body.Good Side of Zumanity
Zumanity includes all the elements you've come to expect from Cirque du Soleil: music, color, acrobatics and dance. The difference here is their exploration of human love, sensuality and eroticism. It's a bold departure for an organization that's more identified with family entertainment, and the subject matter is approached from a unique and entertaining viewpoint.
Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of Zumanity is its inclusive nature. In Las Vegas, the "perfect" showgirl has long been the icon of sexy performances, but Zumanity goes in a different direction, featuring people of all sizes, shapes, colors and persuasions.
Bad Side of Zumanity
For all of its beauty and unique approach, Zumanity fails to gel. It tries too hard to meld the troupe's traditional performance style with its new subject matter, and falls short, leaving the impression of sexuality forced onto the performances.
The Bottom Line
Given the show's high price tag, you might want to see one of the other Cirque du Soleil shows instead.
