California Arts

By Betsy Malloy, About.com

It's not surprising that California's largest cities also offer the richest opportunities for enjoying the arts, but you'll find a few real gems off the beaten path, too including the house where Eugene O'Neill wrote his most famous plays.

Since the Tony Award for Regional Theatre Award was first given out in 1976, eight California companies have won. Find out which ones they are.

Los Angeles

If you love film, the theater and art museums, you can't go wrong in Los Angeles, home to more museums than any other American city, where there are plenty of actors, both famous and excellent-but-undiscovered.

San Francisco

If you're a fan of Rodin sculpture, the San Francisco area is the place to be, with extensive Rodin collections at the Palace of the Legion of Honor and at the Iris and Gerald B. Cantor Center for the Arts in Palo Alto.
