The Hollywood Sign
It's been decades since Hollywood gained its reputation as the center of American film-making, and today's Hollywood sometimes fails to live up to visitors' ideas of it. Nevertheless, it's a fun place to visit for most people, who enjoy the blatantly touristy Walk of Fame and other attractions. It's also the home of the Hollywood Bowl, our favorite outdoor summer concert venue, the Kodak Theater where the Academy Awards are held and more.

Ready to Go? Use our Hollywood Weekend Getaway Planner and you'll be ready in no time.

Hollywood is Popular For: Family outings, nightlife and film lovers enjoy exploring its history.

How Far? Check the map at the beginning of this gallery to see which getaways are closest to your starting point. Most weekend-trippers limit their adventures to about three hours' travel time and most drive there. If you're going by car, Hollywood is Within 200 Miles of Bakersfield, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Bernardino and San Diego.

If you don't mind flying, you can expand your range by flying to LAX or Burbank. Compare airfare prices at Kayak.com or check for last-minute specials at lastminute.com
