Being in a rustic mood, we opted to anchor our boat in one of the Delta waterways. While anchoring is not allowed in the deep water channel, it's fine elsewhere as long as you avoid marked pipelines and other obstructions. We chose a spot with view of Mount Diablo. "Just throw one anchor into the wind and throw the other one off the opposite corner," we were told during orientation. In reality, it was much harder than that. Communication was difficult with people on both front and back of the boat, and it's entirely possible that we had too many people with too many bright ideas trying to implement them all at once. At any rate, if you decide to do this, I'd suggest you appoint one person to be the only one giving directions and spend plenty of time talking about what you're going to do before you try it. You can also take the easy way out (which is what I advocated) and dock at a marina.
Things are much easier at Lake Shasta. Let's see why.
