The Carthay Circle's name and architecture recall the Carthay Circle Theatre where the animated film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” premiered in 1937. At 89.5 feet tall, it's three-fourths the size of the original movie palace. It's bigger than Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle, but you may not think so because forced perspective on Main Street U.S.A. makes the Castle looks taller than it really is.
Inside it's a quiet place, with a bar serving specialty cocktails and a restaurant where you can sit down and be served instead of standing in line and picking up a tray. It makes for a relaxing break in the middle of a busy day.
Inside the Carthay Circle is the Carthay Circle Lounge, where you can get an "adult" beverage, including special cocktails carefully constructed down to unique glassware and drink-specific ice. They also serve beer and wine. The atmosphere is quiet and so very subdued that you forget about the lively goings-on just outside. If you need a break, this a place to get it, but if you want to enjoy the park's energy without interruption, you can also get a glass of wine at the upstairs counter near the Wine Country Trattoria.
The Carthay Circle Restaurant is California Adventure's fine dining spot, serving "modern cuisine that pays tribute to the bold and diverse flavors of Southern California." The decor recalls Los Angeles of the 1930s. The menu changes seasonally, but always includes spherically-shaped biscuits filled with cheddar cheese and bacon. The background music is also fun, jazz-style versions of Disney classic songs.
If your heart is set on eating there, they sometimes close for private events, so it's best to secure your reservations at or before the start of your trip. Even if you're not quite so set on the place, reservations are recommended any time and the only way to get them is to call Disney Dining at 714-781-3463. If you purchase an entree and either an appetizer or a dessert, you'll get a ticket for the Reserved Center Stage Viewing Area at World of Color. Book a table on the outdoor balcony for the time fireworks go off at Disneyland and you can not only see them, but they play the music, too.
