Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Thunder Mountain simulates a runaway train careening through an abandoned mine complex and through scenery reminiscent of Bryce Canyon and the desert southwest. It include three climbs. It's fun and packs more into the apparently small footprint than you might expect.

  • Thunder Mountain is fast, and speeds can reach 30 miles per hour.
  • This ride is not for anyone a neck or back trouble, heart problems or for expectant mothers.
  • Prone to motion sickenss? Take precautions.
  • While you're in line, look for hidden Mickeys among the stones or painted on the ground.
  • Sit in the back of the train for more thrills.
  • Put away your glasses and hat before you ride, or you may lose them.

Fun Facts About Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

For an out-of-the-ordinary experience on this ride, try the "goat trick" as it's known among some Disneyland afficinados. Wait until you get to the lift with the goat at the top, then try to keep your eyes on the goat as you go down the hill and around the next curve.

If you're in a wheelchair, enter through the EXIT, go to the unloading area and ask for assistance. You will have to transfer from the chair to the ride vehicle
