Sunset Boulevard between Crescent Heights and Doheny
The Sunset Strip is actually in West Hollywood, not Hollywood proper. If you want to see it, go south from Hollyhock House on any main street, then turn right onto Sunset Boulevard.
Sunset Boulevard runs from downtown Los Angeles to Malibu, but the "Sunset Strip," a 1.5-mile-long section between Doheny Drive and N. Crescent Heights Blvd. is its most famous section.
An unincorporated part of Los Angeles County until 1985, Sunset Strip got its name from county workers who called it "that strip," or "the strip up Sunset." The first buildings went up at the corner of Sunset Strip and Sunset Plaza Drive in 1924.
Under less strict laws than the adjoining city, Sunset Strip soon became a center for nightlife and gained the reputation it still enjoys today.
