Turn right onto on La Brea and right on Wilshire to S. Curson Ave., where you'll find the La Brea Tar Pits, one of the world's best and most important sources of Ice Age fossils and the Page Museum where many of them are displayed. Tar and methane gas still bubble and ooze to the surface, with oily puddles seeping through sidewalk cracks and bubbles in the lake near Wilshire. Inside the museum, you'll find woolly mammoth skeletons, dire wolves and saber-toothed cats and during digging season, you can get a peek at whatever's being dug out of the fossil pits.
